I have spent a lot of time this month on lunch duty, duty, duty. Just about 30 minutes a day but it's easy and part of the job!! I went to the April board meeting where we found out several more teachers are retiring, and more about budget cuts. I also had my final evaluation. I did not get recommended for rehire, surprise, surprise!! No big deal, we have a business to run and I will run it!!! Mr. Roch arranged for me to take two professional days so that I could work some hours in so, I was able to attend some great things. The annual IDEA state panel met in Tucumcari so I got to see how that was ran. On that same day, the new elementary music teacher made a decision and we took her around to look for houses and look at the town!! In the meantime, Mr. Roch got a call about the HS principal, so he had to head back!! We were also dealing with some ISS issues and what they eat there. I went back to the office to wait for Mr. Roch. When he came back he told me that the interim HS principal had just resigned, walked out, no notice. The BLT(building leadership team), had made him mad and so he just walked out!!!
On the days when Mr. Roch is not in the office I have been working with the technology department on inventory. We worked on Thursday a few hours getting ready for a big day of inventory. On Friday we went to the elementary school and invetoried, renamed, and added printers to more than 75 computers. Whew! We then went to the HS and did the same thing to the mobile labs. We worked for 10 hours on inventory!!! Anyhoo, I have one more professional day for inventory, which they need the help, but have learned little about being a principal. I am just excited that I have something to fall back on, flipping burgers!!!

March(first half)
10th
Since my administrator has been out of the district for so long, I decided I needed to try to work some hours in elsewhere. I sat and observed one of the middle school science teachers today. I am going to observe some others using an evaluation form and see how it is done.
11th
I observed one of the middle school math teachers today. He uses kinesthetic learning for graphing, it was very cool to see how he does this. We have the luxury of having an empty "project room" across the hall from his classroom so he has "taped" a graph on the floor. When he wants to kids to do coordinates he has them stand where they should, it was very neat and a great way to show that he is teaching for all learning styles.
I worked with Mr. Roch today for a while. We had a meeting with a parent who is also a middle school math teacher. She was concerned about some of the things they are doing at the high school in ISS. They have decided to give the kids that are in ISS a different meal than the one that the other students get. The sad part is, it's just bread and cheese and some fruit. She said that in a district and town like ours that meal might be some of those students' only meal and we should not use food deprivation as punishment. I agree with her. She is going to research other alternatives to get ISS to work and I volunteered as an intern to help her out.
12th
Since my administrator was gone.....again. I went to the elementary school and worked with Tonya Hodges. She is the principal for the 3-5 side of the elementary. Since we are getting ready for testing she put me to work getting packets and things together, she also had me doing some other things in the office. After I finished this I worked on the ISS research.
15th
During my prep I worked on some ISS research and went down to meet with the teacher who is helping me about it. I also went to the admin building where Mr. Roch led a meeting for those staff that did not get to go through the test security training during the in-service. After that I worked on ISS some more and then went to a board meeting. It was a good meeting, they talked about the building projects and how they are going to have to cash in some bonds to pay for some of it. Mr. Roch also shared that by the end of next year Tucumcari will lose $314,000 in operational money and another $80,000 the next year.
16th
During my prep I continued to work on ISS research.
After school I went to the high school to sit in on a scheduling meeting. What a bear. The sad part is that at a school this size, it's not as difficult to make sure every class is covered, at a school the size I want to be, it is a pain in the butt to make sure that you get all the cores and some electives in so that each kid has a choice at some point in the day. That was very interesting.
After that meeting I had a Quality Council meeting where we talked about data and the goal teams progress on things that need to be done by the end of the year.
All in all, since I haven't done anything else, this has been a pretty good month so far.

January 12
Well the new semester has begun. I am again co-chairing the EEO goal team. We had an EEO meeting On January 12 where we talked about some things that needed to be taken care of. We were working on the Student Survey which still had not been taken care of. We had just had a staff meeting and got chewed out for some things that I was not aware of. It seems that no matter what we try to fix or do we get shot down but then when we don't come up with a solution we get in trouble for it.
I have not had any time to work with my administrator since he is out of the office until after the middle of February. I plan to work with him on testing in April.
I have also been given the task as administrator in training to put together something fun for open house in May so I will be working a lot on my own research for that.
